About Us:
      Nick & Sandy Morganelli
Introduced to Parrots in 1980 when a friend asked us to baby sit an African Grey for six months, our lives
were suddenly changed. For better or for worse, we were bitten by the Bird bug so many experience. The
Grey became so much a part of our lives, as well as the lives of our four boys, that we decided we had to
have a parrot of our own.
By 1982, our Thanksgiving Day family photo including a total of eight parrots sitting on our shoulders.
We learned as most do, through trials and tribulations as we trained parrots. While we learned, and
thought that we were the only trainers involved, the parrots trained us - teaching us what works, what
doesn't, but most importantly to throw away everything we ever thought we knew because there will
always be that one bird that breaks all the rules.
Acquiring a pair of Sun Conures in 1984, we began raising birds of our own. Seeking out quality breeders
to acquire healthy baby birds from across the country, Sandy and I acquired associations with several
well-established breeders. Six of those breeders include Gail Worth of Aves International, Linda Greeson
of Greeson's Baby Parrots, Louise Ethridge of Shady Oaks Aviary, Chuck and Gina Ethridge of Gina's
Birds for Adoption, Nell Fraser of N&S Aviary, and Rance and Terri Moore of Parrotdise Aviary. We
have raised a variety of our own baby birds while maintaining a relationship with several of our contacts,
who hatch babies exclusively for LUV-N-BIRDS.
By 1990, we were breeding a variety of small birds, to include Sun Conures, Cockatiels, Quaker
Parakeets, Jenday Conures, and Indian Ringnecks. When I retired, my wife and I opened our first bird
shop, and named our business LUV-N-BIRDS. Operating from Winston-Salem on weekends, we sold not
only the babies we raised, but also supplies needed for bird enthusiasts and breeders alike.
With a successful business, Sandy then opened her own Bird Shop, where she sold smaller breeds, such as
Parakeets, Love Birds, Canaries, Finches, as well as Rosy Bourkes, Grey Cheeks, and Parrotlets. During
that time, I specialized in the larger breeds, to include Amazons, African Greys, Pionus, Lories, Macaws,
Eclectus, and Cockatoos. We have since combined both shops in to one larger bird store, which Sandy
runs and maintains with few of her hard-working, dedicated friends.
Belonging to several national organizations, we retain membership to such prestigious clubs as American
Federation of Aviculture and Asiatic Breeders Association, where we exchange ideas and pointers from
breeders throughout the United States. When time permits, we travel to various parts of the country to
visit with other bird breeders and bird enthusiasts. We find that learning
about
birds is a never-ending process.
Branching out into other areas of Avian enthusiasm, we have,
for the last eight years, been the National Distributor for
Eric Peake, the world renowned Avian Artist. Producing
and maintaining the World Class Avian Art web site, we
retail his World Class Avian Art Limited Edition
Prints all over the world.
Striving for quality raised birds, we apply years of
knowledge, as well as love and socialization into
each baby that we raise. Not only offering supplies
such as cages and food to our customers, but also
education on each breed and tips on training, we
provide each customer with the knowledge to
maintain and grow a wonderful relationship with
their new lifetime companion. Selling birds locally
as well as throughout the country to other breeders
and individuals alike, we continue to raise each baby
with the love needed to successfully develop each
hatchling into a wonderful friend and pet.
